ONSET Trust was born out of the frustrations
of five local professionals, that despite the best efforts
of its local authorities, the town of Dunstable had ceased
to serve its community and that certain demographic sectors
of the population were now completely overlooked, since by
every national criteria they belonged to an area of statistical
affluence.
Frustrated by the failure
of successive governments to recognise this, these individuals
– who between them have resided locally for 113 years,
and are now the founding Trustees of ONSET – took the
radical decision to use their own expertise, desire and resources
to address the situation, which all local and national government
agencies seemed incapable of solving. Together they set about
creating a unique solution to this oversight in the national
social funding strategy. This project will not only redress
this imbalance but will also provide a vehicle to enable local
business to become more integrated with the local community.
This Business Plan seeks
to establish that this perceived imbalance exists, and outlines
the various programmes that the Trustees envisage will begin
to bring the various sectors of the community together, and
to act as a catalyst for social and economic regeneration.
It is also an opportunity
for innovative funding organisations to assist in the establishing
of a blueprint for similar projects in previously overlooked
areas of deprivation throughout the United Kingdom. |
